THE GRASSROOTS CABLE CAMPAIGN

Grassrootscable.com is a collaboration between media activists from different cities around the US, working together to build coordinated campaigns to hold cable companies accountable to the public.

This campaign, which currently links community activist coalitions in Philadelphia (Philadelphia), San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago, was born out of 2002/2003 collaborations building opposition to media ownership deregulation at the FCC. Our organizations worked together to plan public hearings and other projects aimed at making sure that local communities got to have a say in the debate over policy changes that stood to affect their access to news and communication tools.

Through this new website, we hope to expand our collaborative campaigns, allowing more local and regional organizations nationwide to participate in support each others' community-focused efforts, and to develop collaborative campaigns on cable and other media issues.

This website is a work in progress—watch for a more complete launch this summer, including expanded organizing resources, collaborative action campaigns and support for local organizing sections. Keep an eye here, and contact us (link below) to get involved!

Are you doing local organizing or campaigning around cable, broadband access or Wi-Fi issues? Are you concerned about gaining or preserving affordable cable rates, public access TV, equitable service to disadvantaged communities, municipal communications utilities? Are these issues a priority for your local organization, coalition, alliance, union or public access center?

Please contact us today at (info@grassrootscable.com). Let us know about your experiences dealing with your local provider and/or local government about cable/broadband issues, and let us know if your organization would like more information about joining our network of mutual support!
